Race: why do people compare Obama to MLK?

I am offended that people have made the comparison between Obama’s 2008 DNC acceptance speech to MLK’s “I Have A Dream” speech, when I know it is only because they are both black.

Obama is a politician – MLK is a great humanitarian.

Do you remember Bush’s 2000 acceptance speech? In it he made promises of a better future, delivered through faith-based social programs for the neediest in our country and quality education for every child through “No Child Left Behind”.

But I do not recall anyone comparing Bush to MLK, even though, pound-for-pound, Bush’s 2000 speech was no less impressive than Obama’s ( I am not a Republican … I am just trying to be objective ).
